India 1879 10 rupees

from the Stack's Bowers 2017 ANA sale, lot 21072

This specimen was lot 21072 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Superb Gem Proof INDIA. 5 Rupees, 1879-(c). Calcutta Mint. NGC PROOF-66* CAMEO. Struck with a 1/4 Rupee obverse die (dated 1877, Prid-408). Minor strike through present in front of the bust, though otherwise this is a pristine example displaying wondrous cameo qualities. Needle sharp strike and fully brilliant with great eye appeal. Ex: Hammel Collection." The SCWC notes three varieties of this rare issue: bust A (KM 493.1), bust B (KM 493.2) and bust C (KM 493.3). All are restrikes as none were issued for circulation.
