This specimen was lot 1296 in Jean Elsen sale 121 (Brussels, June 2014), where it sold for €220 (about US$352 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"GRANDE-BRETAGNE, Georges Ier (1714-1727), AR sixpence, 1723, Droit: B. l., drapé et cuirassé à droite. Revers: Croix formée de quatre écus couronnés, cantonnée des lettres SS-C. Léger défaut de flan sur la tranche. Belle patine. Superbe. (Great Britain, George I (1714-27), silver sixpence of 1723. Obverse: laureate, draped and armored bust to right; reverse: cross formed of four crowned shiedls, "SS-C" in angles. Light planchet flaw on the edge, nice toning, extremely fine.)"
South Sea Company silver was also used to mint shillings (KM 539.3), halfcrowns (KM 540.2) and crowns (KM 545.2) of which the sixpence is the most available. The next issue of sixpences was in 1726.
Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.
