This specimen was lot 40128 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $4,112. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Prussia. 1/2 Krone, 1868-A. NGC MS-62." This type was minted in Berlin 1862-69 in substantial numbers but is now rare. Many may have been melted to strike gold ten and twenty mark after the reform of 1871.
Recorded mintage: 92,000 (highest mintage date).
Specification: 5.55 g, .900 fine gold, .160 troy oz AGW.
