Sincona sale 33, lot 3087

This specimen was lot 3087 in Sincona sale 33 (Zurich, October 2016), where it sold for 2,200 CHF (about US$2,612 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Rudolf II. 1576-1612 Dukat 1583. Prag. Fast vorzüglich. Knickspur, Schrötlingsriss. (Holy Roman Empire, Rudolf II, 1576-1612, ducat of 1583, Prague mint. Almost extremely fine, Planchet defect.)"

Friedberg listed this type under Bohemia altho the design is purely Austrian. It was struck 1583, 1587-89 and 1594 and is common for a ducat.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, .986 fine gold, .109 troy oz ASW, this specimen 3.46 g.
