Goldberg sale 104, lot 4287

This specimen was lot 4287 in Goldberg sale 104 (Los Angeles, June 2018), where it sold for $72. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ireland. Halfcrown, 1940. Brilliant mint luster. PCGS graded MS-63." The first Irish half crowns, issued 1928-37, featured the obverse legend "SAORSTAT EIREANN"; the second type, issued 1939-43, merely stated "EIRE." The subsequent and final type (KM 16a), issued 1951-67, was copper-nickel. The Irish race horse depicted honors Irish agriculture.

Recorded mintage: 752,000, a common date.

Specification: 14.14 g, .750 fine silver, .340 troy oz ASW, 32.3 mm diameter.
