This specimen was lot 10354 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $646. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony-Albertine. Taler, 1547. Toned. NGC VF-35." Saxony, one of the larger divisions of Germany and blessed with numerous silver mines, issued large numbers of thalers. This type was struck by the Albertine branch 1547-48.
