Sincona sale 57, lot 2674

This specimen was lot 2674 in Sincona sale 57 (Zurich, May 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Herzogtum, Johann Albrecht I. 1547-1576. Taler 1549, Gadebusch. Attraktives sehr schönes Exemplar. Hübsche Patina. Kleiner Stempelfehler. (Germany, duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, John Albrecht I, 1547-76, thaler of 1549, Gadebusch mint. Attractive very fine specimen, Attractive patina, Small die defect.)"

Altho the auction cataloguers have attributed this issue to Mecklenburg-Schwerin, it was actually issued when Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Gustrow were temporarily merged. The duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz did not yet exist.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 27.71 g.

Catalog reference: Kunzel 97, Dav-9547.
