This specimen was lot 1053 in Jean Elsen sale 143 (Brussels, December 2019), where it sold for €220 (about US$287 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"TOURNAI, Seigneurie, Philippe II (1555-1598), Cu liard, 1589. D/ B. couronné à g. R/ Ecu couronné. Rare. Très Beau. (lordship of Tournai, Philip II, 1555-98, copper liard of 1589. Obverse: crowned bust left; reverse: crowned arms. Rare, Very Fine .)"
In the French system, a liard was one-fourth of a sou and weighed about 3 grams; the liard of Tournai was a little heavier so we surmise that it was worth more.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: copper, this specimen 5,10 g.
Catalog reference: G.H. 232-14; Hoc 330; V.H. 321.
