This specimen was lot 43399 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Venice. Ducato, ND (1768-69)-RBP. Alvise Mocenigo IV (1763-78). NGC AU-58. Evenly detailed with strong flash appearing beneath moderately toned surfaces. A premium example of this charmingly illustrative type. Sold with two old collector's tags. Ex: Marquis Albert Von Hoenkubin Collection." The Duchy of Venice was actually an oligarchy nominally ruled by an elected doge. Venetian independence was terminated by the Napoleonic invasions and the area fell to Austria in 1797. This type was struck 1763-78 without date but the mintmaster's initials can be used to narrow the period of issue.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 23.4 g, .826 fine silver, 39-40 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: Dav-1561; KM-663.
