This specimen was lot 20275 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Newark (Besieged). 1/2 Crown, 1645. Charles I. ANACS VF-30. A popular siege issue, the 1645 date is assuredly SCARCER than its 1646 counterpart. Lightly toned and pleasant, this example has seen some even, moderate wear, yet remains quite wholesome and with a flan that features far fewer flaws than can typically be encountered for these obsidional issues." The besieged royalists also issued silver sixpence, ninepence and shillings. Altho these appear fairly regularly in auctions, high demand brings high prices.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 15.05 g, 0.925 fine silver.
Catalog reference: S-3140; N-2638; KM-371.
