The first specimen was lot 1756 in UBS sale 83 (Zurich, September 2009) where it did not sell. The catalog description noted, "Umberto I. 1878-1900. 20 Lire 1879, Roma. Fast vorzüglich, (1879 20 lire, Rome mint, nice extremely fine)." The second specimen was lot 3760 in Goldberg sale 70 (Los Angeles, September 2012), where it sold for $328. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italy. 20 Lire, 1879-R. Umberto I, 1878-1900. NGC graded AU-58." The third specimen was part of lot 21123 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), which sold for $3,360. The catalog description[2] noted, "ITALY. Date Run of 20 Lire, 1865-97. Fr-11 & 21; KM-10.1 & 21. 12 pieces in lot. 1865, 1879, 1880, 1881, 1883, 1885, 1886, 1888, 1890, 1891, 1893, & 1897. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. NGC AU-58 (1), Unc Details--Scratches (1), MS-61 (1), MS-62 (4), & MS-63 (5)." This date is one of a series struck 1879-97 at the Rome mint during the reign of Umberto of Italy. It is struck to the same standard as the contemporary French twenty francs.
