This specimen was lot 50077 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $646. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 10 Kroner, 1909-VBP. NGC MS-65. This specimen was struck during the reign of Frederick VII (1906-12). The Scandinavian countries (Norway, Denmark and Sweden) formed their own monetary union in competition with the Latin Monetary Union based on the French twenty francs d'or. Like that union, the Scandinavian Monetary Union lasted until World War One blasted all hard currencies out of existence. The ten kroner shown here was issued 1908-09 in limited numbers compared to the larger twenty kroner. This date is the last for the design; the last gold ten kroner is dated 1917.
