Shown is a twenty sols aux insignes (twenty sous with insignia) struck at the Rennes mint for France in the last years of Louis XIV's reign. The type was struck 1707-08 in substantial numbers but the type is scarce today. When the coin was recalled in 1710 for melting, the government paid only 14 sols each for them. This date is common.
Recorded mintage: 2,448,723.
Specification: 6.11 g, .833 fine silver, plain edge, designed by Norbert Roëttiers.
