This diminutive coin, called a deux deniers de Strasbourg, was nearly the smallest coin issued during the French ancien régime. The date is common for the type, which was struck only at Strasbourg 1696-1700 and 1707-1708. Numerous varieties of obverse legend are reported. Droulers[1] notes that it circulated in Alsace as a heller.

Specification: 2.3 g, pure copper, 20 mm diameter, designed by Joseph Roëttiers.
Catalog reference: Dr/2 no. 524, Dr/4 no. 787, Gad-72.
