Künker Auction 439, lot 2388

This specimen was lot 2388 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €4,200 (about US$5,778 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, HERZOGTUM Bernhard I., 1428-1434. Goldgulden o. J., Reckheim (?). Nachahmung der gleichzeitigen Goldgulden Herzog Arnolds von Geldern (1423-1472). GOLD. Von größter Seltenheit. Sehr schön. (duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg, Bernard I, 1428-34, undated goldgulden, perhaps Reckheim mint. Imitation of the contemporary gold gulden of Duke Arnold of Guelders (1423–1472). Extremely rare, very fine.)"

Wikipedia comments, "Bernard (between 1358 and 1364 – 11 June 1434) was Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg in the early 15th century, co-ruling Brunswick with his younger brother Henry the Mild from 1400 to 1409, then as sole ruler of Brunswick from 1409 to 1428 and of Lüneburg from 1428 until his death in 1434. In the genealogy of the House of Welf, he is considered the first member of the Second House of Lüneburg." At this time, there were four Welf lines: Brunswick-Luneburg, Brunswick-Grubenhagen, Brunswick-Göttingen and Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel.

Recorded mintage: unknown.
