In 1999, the United States mint began a program of commemorative quarters featuring each of the fifty states. Five designs were issued each year 1999-2008. In 2005, the states featured were California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas and West Virginia (shown here). The program was popular enough that it was expanded to include the territories in 2009 and the [[United States 2014-D quarter KM-570|national parks]] in 2010.
