This specimen was lot 744 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,483 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''DEUTSCHER ORDEN, DEUTSCHER ORDEN IN MERGENTHEIM Johann Caspar von Ampringen, 1664-1684. Reichstaler 1673, Mainz. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich.'' (Teutonic Order in Mergentheim, John Caspar of Ampringen, 1664-84, thaler of 1673, Mainz mint. Handsome patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"</blockquote> Altho the Teutonic Order is best remembered in history for its activities in Prussia and Latvia, these scarce thalers were minted for them in Mainz.
