This specimen was lot 24097 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $504. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Italy|ITALY]]. [[Italy, Naples & Sicily|Naples & Sicily]]. 10 Grani, 1804-JUI. Palermo Mint. Ferdinand III. PCGS VF-35 Gold Shield. A wholesome and presentable large copper coin with a decent amount of design detail, fields free of distracting marks, and a dark chocolate brown patina." This type was struck 1801-04 and is rare in nice condition as are most Italian copper coins from before unification. It was valid only in Sicily and not in the neighboring Naples. Ferdinand III spent most of the Napoleonic period in Sicily, away from marauding French armies.
