This specimen was lot 1472 in Goldberg Sale 146 (Los Angeles, July 2025), where it sold for $192. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Germany|German States]]: [[German States, Saxony|Saxony]]. Taler, 1640. Johann Georg I. Tooling in the fields and cleaned. Only one graded at PCGS, that coin is XF-45. PCGS graded Very Fine Detail (Mount Removed). The Augustana Collection." Saxony, one of the larger divisions of Germany and blessed with numerous silver mines, issued large numbers of thalers. This type was issued 1638-56. It is not rare but is less common than issues of the previous reign. This example realized only half the catalog value.
