This specimen was lot 1277 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €7,000 (about US$9,043 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''SACHSEN-COBURG-EISENACH, HERZOGTUM Johann Casimir, 1624-1633. Breiter doppelter Reichstaler 1627, Saalfeld. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Sehr attraktives Exemplar mit hübscher Patina, fast vorzüglich.'' ([[Germany]], duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Eisenach, John Casimer, 1624-33, wide double thaler of 1627, Saalfeld mint. Rare, especially in this quality, very attractive, toned, choice extremely fine.)"</blockquote> As these large pieces were given out as prizes at shooting festivals and the like, it is not surprising that most survivors have been mounted. This variety was minted 1627 and 1629. This division of the Saxon lands lasted 1572-1638. Saxe-Neu-Gotha dates from 1640.
