This specimen was lot 1286 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €2,600 (about US$3,359 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''SACHSEN-ALTENBURG, HERZOGTUM Friedrich Wilhelm II. 1639-1669. Reichstaler 1669, Saalfeld, auf seinen Tod. RR Sehr attraktives Exemplar mit prachtvoller Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich.'' ([[Germany]], duchy of Saxe-Altenburg, Frederick William II, 1639-69, thaler of 1669, Saalfeld mint, on his death. Rare, very attractive example with outstanding patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"</blockquote> Saxe-Altenburg, one of the many splinters of ducal Saxony, was formed in 1573 and lapsed several times before its final extinction after World War One. This variety was struck 1669 only.
