The specimen shown was issued to honor the 500th anniversary of the birth of Pedro Alvares Cabral, the captain who discovered Brazil. [[Portugal]], then under the dictatorship of Antonio Salazar (who died in 1968), issued commemoratives to honor those safely dead.
