This specimen was lot 3091 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $3,290. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Italy|ITALY]]. Parma. 4 Doppie, 1790-S. Ferdinand I (1765-1802). NGC AU-50. A RARE multiple gold piece struck during the eighteenth century Bourbon rule of the Duchy. Struck on a well made flan which still shows some of its original luster among the outer legends and finer protected areas. Wear consistent with grade being mainly confined to the side curls and cheek of the bust and leaves on reverse." Duke Ferdinando was descended from Philip V of Spain and thru him Louis XIV of France. This type is listed in the SCWC for 1787-96. All the dates are rare. ''Doppia'' means "double," and this coin is roughly eight ducats. Six and eight doppie also exist but are very rare.
