This specimen was lot 377 in UBS sale 85 (Zürich, September 2010), where it did not sell. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''DEUTSCHLAND, Nürnberg, Stadt, Taler 1721. Titel Karl VI. Gekrönter Adler fliegt über Stadtansicht. Rv. Belorbeertes, geharnischtes Brustbild des Kaisers nach rechts. Kl. Kr. Vorzüglich-fast vorzüglich.''" (Free city of Nuremberg, thaler of 1721, issued in the name of emperor Charles VI. Crowned eagle flies over the city; reverse: bewigged, armored bust of the emperor facing right. Nice Extremely Fine.)</blockquote> This one-year type has the date in a chronogram, a fad popular in Germany. The capital letters in the obverse legend, when converted to Roman numerals and added up, make 1721. Six, eight and ten ducats were struck with these dies. The city was annexed to Bavaria in 1806.
