This specimen was lot 22612 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Germany|GERMANY]]. Nordhausen. 2/3 Taler, 1685-AD. NGC VF Details--Plugged. A VERY RARE issue that is seldom seen, this fractional Taler offers a great deal of detail remaining despite its holed and plugged nature. The obverse features a column separating a radiant tetragrammaton and a personification of the wind, while the reverse displays an ornately crested helmet." It was offered again as lot 72431 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, June 2020), where it sold for $480. Nordhausen was a small and obscure imperial free city surrounded by Hannover, Prussia and Saxony. We have filed it under its nearest neighbor, [[German States, Stolberg|Stolberg]]. It was annexed to Prussia during Napoleon's rearrangement of Germany. It issued a few coins in the seventeenth century, all rare. This issue was accompanied by KM 40 (2/3 thaler), KM 35 (24 mariengroschen) and KM 37 (16 gute roschen).
