This specimen was lot 5337 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €950 (about US$1,228 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''NEUSS, STADT, Reichstaler 1569, mit Titel Maximilians II. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Hübsche Patina, leichte Prägeschwäche, fast vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Westfälische Auktionsgesellschaft 2, Dortmund 1993, Nr. 1292.'' (city of Neuss, thaler of 1569, struck in the name of Maximilian II. Scarce in this quality, handsome patina, slightly weakly struck, about extremely fine.)"</blockquote> Neuss is today an insignificant town in the Ruhr valley of Germany. It was formerly part of the Archbishopric of [[German States, Cologne|Cologne]] who granted the town the mint right. This type is listed for 1568-72. Coinage ended in the 1580's.
