This specimen was lot 2492 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $360. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[India, Mughal Empire|MUGHAL]]: Aurangzeb, 1658-1707, AR 1/2 rupee, Surat, AH1109 year 4(2), superb strike, NGC graded MS64." While half rupees are not rare, they are seldom seen compared to the enormous quantities of rupees struck in Aurangzeb's vast empire. This type was struck throughout his long reign at three dozen mints, of which Surat is common. The AH date "١١٠٩" is bold but the regnal date "٤١" is off the planchet.
