This specimen was lot 31015 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $950. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Australia. Jno Andrew & Co. copper Penny Token 1862 MS63 Brown NGC. A gorgeously toned token issue with razor sharp devices throughout. The piece possesses a sublime iridescence, the fields transforming upon rotation from a uniform mahogany to crimson in the centers and cobalt at the peripheries. From the Feeling Good Collection." Filling a shortage of coinage in the expanding economy, private tokens flourished until finally being banned in the 1870's. The SCWC lists nearly three hundred varieties. Today most are very scarce.
