This specimen was lot 2662 in Goldberg sale 109 (Los Angeles, January 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Italy, Genoa|Italian States: Genoa]] (As the Ligurian Republic). Lira, 1798/1. Short lived republic created by Napoleon (1798-1805). Fasces and liberty cap behind shield in sprays. Reverse: Two figures standing. Sharply struck with sparkling reflective fields. Choice example of this rare type. NGC graded MS-64." This is a rare type struck 1798 only by Napoleon's puppet Ligurian Republic. Genoa never recovered her independence. In 1815, Metternich awarded Genoa to Sardinia and followed her into the kingdom of [[Italy]] during the unification of 1860-61.
