The area of [[Lebanon]] was taken from Ottoman control after World War I, and placed under French mandate along with [[Syria]]. It was declared the ''Etat du Gran Liban'' in 1920. This five piastres was struck in Paris 1925 and 1931-40. This specimen was lot 919 in Stephen Album sale 32 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2018), where it sold for $105.75. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "LEBANON: 5 piastres, 1936, tied for highest graded at PCGS, PCGS graded MS65."
