The province of Kirin (Jilin) lies in Manchuria, north of the present day border of North Korea. The mint opened in 1881 and for many years struck only trial pieces. Silver milled coins were produced from 1895 onward. Many were dated using the sexagenary cycle. The mint burnt down in 1911.

The specimen shown was lot 60396 at the August 2011 Hong Kong Auction by Stack’s Bowers Auctions (August 21, 2011) where it sold for $13,145. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, “[[China|CHINA]]. Kirin. 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar), CD (1906). "CAINDARINS". Attractive old toning. 文"CAINDARINS"。老包漿。NGC EF-45. Ex: The Frank Robinson Collection."
