Honan Province in the south east of China began coin production in 1647. A mint for struck coinage began operation in 1905.

The specimen shown was lot 21237 in Ponterio sale 165 (Hong Kong, April 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[China|CHINA]]. Hunan. 10 Cash, ND (ca. 1902-06). PCGS AU-58. 湖南省造光緒元寶十文。.”
