This specimen was lot 4334 in Goldberg sale 74 (Los Angeles, June 2013), where it sold for $1,380 including buyer's fees. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "German States - Hamburg. Taler, 1694-IR. City arms in baroque frame. Reverse: Crowned double headed eagle. Nice lustrous original fields. NGC graded MS-62." The city of Hamburg issued coins almost continuously until the end of World War One and the mint there is still in operation, striking coins for the ''Bundesrepublik Deutschland.'' This type was struck 1694 only and is rather scarce. It was the first thaler struck since [[Hamburg 1687-HL thaler Dav-5372|1687]].
