This specimen was lot 300 in UBS sale 85 (Zürich, September 2010), where it sold for 320 CHF (about US$365 including buyer's fee). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''DEUTSCHLAND, Hamburg, Stadt, Taler 1607. Titel Rudolph II. Stadtwappen. Rv. Gekrönter, nimbierter Doppeladler, auf der Brust den Reichsapfel mit der Wertzahl 32. Hksp. Sehr schön.''" (City of Hamburg, thaler of 1607, issued in the name of Rudolph II. Obverse: city walls, reverse: crowned double-headed eagle with "32" on its breast. Very fine.)</blockquote> This type was struck 1606-08. It is technically a 32 schilling piece but is universally classed as a thaler. The city of Hamburg issued coins almost continuously until the end of World War One and the mint there is still in operation, striking coins for the ''Bundesrepublik Deutschland''.
