This specimen was lot 2934 in Stephen Album sale 37 (Santa Rosa, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $101.15. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[India, Portuguese|PORTUGUESE INDIA]]: Maria II, 1834-1853, AE 4½ reis, 1845, somewhat better date, wonderful strike, VF." This type, struck 1845-49 and undated, was accompanied by copper three réis ([[Goa (1845-48) 3 reis|KM 257]]), six réis ([[Goa 1845 6 reis|KM 259]]), 7½ réis ([[Goa 1845 7-1/2 reis|KM 260]]), ten réis (KM 261), 12 réis (KM 262), 15 réis ([[Goa (1834-53) 15 reis|KM 263]]), half tanga (KM 265) and tanga (KM 266). In the old predecimal system, 240 réis = one pardao in silver. In 1871, the Goa mint was closed and milled coinage from the British mints was introduced.
