This specimen was lot 30727 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $822.50. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "François I gold Écu d'or au soleil ND (1527-1528)-G AU58 NGC, Gênes mint, 3rd emission, A very rare issue produced for only two years at the Gênes mint and identified by a letter below the obverse arms rather than a 'point secret.' This example exhibits some light doubling on the reverse as well as what may be a small flan clip. Otherwise, the surfaces are lustrous and bear few signs of handling." The Geneva mint must have been a temporary occupation as it was not assigned a mintmark letter in the reform of 1540. The ''écu d'or'' was tariffed in [[France]] at 36 sols, 3 ''deniers tournois'' in 1515 and raised to 40 ''sols tournois'' in 1519. A ''demi-écu d'or'' also exists.
