This specimen was lot 292 in UBS sale 85 (Zürich, September 2010), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$456 including buyer's fee). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''DEUTSCHLAND, Erbach, Grafschaft, Ludwig III., Johann Casimir und Georg Albrecht, 1605-1627. Taler 1623. Behelmtes Wappen, darüber die geteilte Jahreszahl. Rv. Gekrönter, nimbierter Doppeladler mit Reichsapfel auf der Brust. Zainende und kl. Kr. Sehr schön-vorzüglich.''" (County of Erbach, Louis III, John Casimir and George Albrecht, 1605-27, thaler of 1623. Helments arms divide date; reverse: crowned, haloed double-headed eagle. Very Fine to Extremely Fine.)</blockquote>  The county of Erbach, in Hesse, was subdivided several times in the seventeenth century, the details of which are too tedious to relate. The remnants were annexed to Hesse-Darmstadt in 1803.
