This coin, minted in Pretoria, South Africa, was issued 1943 while France was occupied by the Nazis. This type was issued for the Free French during the period of French mandate over the territory of [[Cameroon]]. It is accompanied by a similar one franc ([[Cameroon 1943-SA franc KM-7|KM 7]]). It also exists with the obverse legend "CAMEROUN FRANÇAIS", i.e., without "LIBRE." Later, in 1960, Cameroon would attain independence.
