This specimen was lot 5603 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,113 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Friedrich, 1636-1648. 1/8 Reichstaler 1648, Clausthal, auf seinen Tod am 10. Dezember. Von großer Seltenheit. Feine Patina, vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 49, Osnabrück 1999, Nr. 1713.'' ([[Germany]], [[German States, Brunswick-Luneburg|duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle]], Frederick, 1636-48, one eighth thaler of 1648, Clausthal mint, on his death on December 10. Extremely rare, fine patina, extremely fine.)"</blockquote> The death of the duke caused the issue of an eighth thaler (shown here), quarter thaler (KM 190), half thaler ([[Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle 1648-LW 1/2 thaler KM-191|KM 191]]), thaler (KM 192/[[Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle 1648-LW thaler Dav-6500|Dav-6500]]) and double thaler (KM 193/Dav-6499). [[Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle 1648-HS 3 thaler Dav-LS146a|Triple]] and [[Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle 1648-HS 4 thaler Dav-LS145|quintuple thalers]] also exist for 1648 but they were likely not funeral commemoratives. The duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle fell extinct in 1705 and passed to Hannover.
