This specimen was lot 1169 in Jean Elsen sale 153 (Brussels, December 2022), where it sold for €140 (about US$177 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''BRABANT, Duché, Philippe IV (1621-1665), AR escalin, 1641, Anvers. D/ Lion deb. à g., ten. une épée et un écu ovale d'Autriche-Bourgogne. R/ Ecu couronné sur une croix de Bourgogne. Belle patine. Très Beau à Superbe.'' ([[Netherlands, Spanish|duchy of Brabant]], Philip IV, 1621-65, silver escalin of 1641, Antwerp mint. Obverse: lion rampant left, bearing a sword and the oval arms of Austria-Burgundy; reverse: crowned arms over a Burgundian cross. Nice patina, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"</blockquote> This type was struck at Antwerp (hand mintmark, shown here), Maastricht ([[Brabant 1623(s) escalin|star mintmark]]), 's Hertogenbosch (tree mintmark) and Brussels (angel face mintmark) 1621-57, as well as [[Artois 1628 escalin|Arras]], [[Tournai 1629 escalin|Tournai]], [[Burgundy 1636 escalin|Burgundy]] and [[Luxembourg 1641 escalin|Luxembourg]]. It was called a schelling in the north and was worth six stuivers. Common in low grade, it is very scarce choice.
