This specimen was lot 3262 in Künker sale 384 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €240 (about US$310 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''Franz II. (I.), 1792-1804-1835. Ku.-1/2 Kreuzer 1800, D, Salzburg. Von großer Seltenheit. Fast sehr schön.'' (principality of [[Austria, Salzburg|Salzburg]], Francis I, 1804-35, copper half kreuzer of 1800, Salzburg mint. Extremely rare, about very fine.)"</blockquote> The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. This type was struck in 1800 for the emperor at seven mints (A (Vienna, common), B (Karlsburg, rare), C (Prague, somewhat common), D (Salzburg, rare, shown here), E (Kremnitz, rare), F (Hall, rare), G (Gunzburg, rare)). In the seventeenth century, Salzburg was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to [[Austria]] in 1814.
