Anhwei was made a separate province in [[China]] in the 17th century. It consists primarily of agricultural land. The Anhwei mint began production in 1897, closed in 1899, and reopened again in 1902. Production was entirely of copper cash coins after 1902.

The specimen shown was lot 60006 in Ponterio sale 162 (Hong Kong, August 2011), where it sold for $101,575. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "CHINA. Anhwei. 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar), Year 24 (1898). The English letters 'T.A.S.C.' are neatly placed in a clockwise manner in the field, Wenchao suggests its meaning as an abbreviation of 'TATSING AN-HWEI SILVER COIN', meaning 'Anhwei silver coin of the Great Q'ing'. Attractive multicolored toning. 正面中央的"T.A.S.C."英文字母，《中國歷代金銀貨幣通覽》記載有旋讀解釋為“大清安徽銀幣”之可能。漂亮的五彩包漿。NGC MS-62. Ex: Patrick Tan Collection."
