This specimen was lot 2506 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $84. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[India, Alwar|ALWAR]]: Mangal Singh, 1874-1892, AR rupee, "1788", citing Queen Victoria, date is engraver's error for 1877, VF."  Alwar was an Indian princely state in Rajputana northeast of Jaipur. Mangal Singh (1874-92) was the first ruler to issue milled coinage, including this rupee of 1877. All the local rulers were stripped of their privileges after independence in 1947. This engraving error is rare and should have realized more than it did. The type was struck 1877-1882. Proofs exist.
