The first specimen was lot 20734 in Heritage sale 3006 (Long Beach, September 2009), where it sold for $3,737.50. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Frederik IIII 6 Mark 1704, toned XF with considerable original mint luster. Perhaps lightly cleaned long ago without disturbing the surfaces of the coin. Rare and popular type featuring the Norwegian lion on the reverse. Variety with FRID IIII." The second specimen was lot 30691 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $4,320. The catalog description<sup>[2]</sup> noted, "Frederik IV 6 Mark (Speciedaler) 1704 AU58 NGC. Nearing Mint State with ample luster remaining in the fields and only faint wisps of friction over highest portions of the design. Interestingly toned, a moderate golden hue highlights much of the surfaces, but it appears a sticker impeded the tone over a portion of the obverse and reverse, with a short rectangle of lighter coloration on both sides. From the Jamestown Collection." This one year type was struck during the reign of Frederick IV (1699-1730). At the time, the monetary system was 12 penning = 1 skilling, 16 skillings = 1 mark, 4 mark = 1 krone, 6 mark = 1 daler specie, 2 daler specie = 1 ducat. Norway was a part of Denmark until 1814.
