This coin was struck at the Philadelphia mint as occupation coinage for [[Belgium]]. To increase their acceptability, both the French "BELGIQUE" and the Flemsih "BEGIE" appear on the obverse. Leftover blanks from 1943 steel cents were used. A few were struck in silver by accident, using planchets intended for Netherlands 25 cents.
