This specimen was lot 72291 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $21,600. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[China|CHINA]]. 1000 Yuan, 1990. Panda Series. PCGS PROOF-68 Deep Cameo Gold Shield. An attractive example of this low-mintage issue which showcases extreme frost over the designs and deep reflectivity in the fields. As is common for the date, a few instances of reddish color appear over both sides, but none are highly concentrated or distracting." This twelve ounce gold panda was the largest issued up to that time.
