This specimen was lot 6464 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €750 (about US$982 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''BAMBERG, BISTUM, Franz von Hatzfeld, 1633-1642. Dukat 1638, Nürnberg oder Würzburg. GOLD. R Schrötlingsriß, etwas gewellt, vorzüglich.'' ([[Germany]], bishopric of [[German States, Bamberg|Bamberg]], Francis of Hatzfeld, 1633-42, ducat of 1638, Nurember gor Wurzburg mint. Scarce, some defects, bent, extremely fine.)"</blockquote> Bamberg, today part of Bavaria, was then part of Franconia and an independent state. Franz von Hatzfeld was also bishop of Wurzburg and resided there. This ducat was struck 1635-40 and is among the more available gold coins from this state.
