This specimen was lot 3101 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabruck, March 2024), where it sold for €22,000 (about US$28,866 including buyer's fees). <p>''Nachdem der schwedische Reichskanzler Axel Oxenstierna Anfang 1633 Herzog Bernhard von Sachsen-Weimar den Oberbefehl in Franken übertragen hatte, erschien der Herzog im Sommer 1633 erneut beim Kanzler, um sich mit dem ihm von Gustav II. Adolf zugesicherten Herzogtum Franken belehnen zu lassen. Am 10. Juni 1633 erfolgte die förmliche Belehnung mit dem neu gebildeten, hauptsächlich aus den eroberten Bistümern Bamberg und Würzburg bestehenden Herzogtum. Mit der Verwaltung betraute Bernhard zunächst seinen Bruder Ernst, um selbst zu seinen in Bayern stehenden Truppen zurückzukehren. Am 4. Juli 1633 gelang ihm gemeinsam mit seinen Brüdern mit der Einnahme der Stadt Regensburg eine seiner bedeutendsten Eroberungen. Sogleich erschien die vorliegende Prägung, die für Bernhard in seinem neuen, nicht weit von Regensburg gelegenen Herzogtum sicherlich ein willkommenes Statussymbol war. Bernhard konnte die Stadt nicht viel länger als ein Jahr halten, und nach der Niederlage bei Nördlingen am 6. September 1634 verlor der Herzog auch das Herzogtum Franken.'' (After the Swedish Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna gave Duke Bernhard of Saxe-Weimar supreme command in Franconia at the beginning of 1633, the Duke appeared again at the Chancellor in the summer of 1633 to be enfeoffed with the Duchy of Franconia that had been guaranteed to him by Gustav II Adolf.
