This specimen was lot 4348 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$2,879 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''SACHSEN, SACHSEN-SAALFELD, HERZOGTUM, AB 1735 SACHSEN. Johann Ernst VIII. 1680-1729. Reichstaler 1687, Saalfeld. R Hübsche Patina, sehr schön +.'' ([[Germany]], duchy of [[German States, Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld|Saxe-Saalfeld]], John Ernest VIII, 1680-1729, thaler of 1687, Saalfeld mint. Scarce, handsome patina, very fine or better.)"</blockquote> This duchy was erected for Johann Ernest VIII in 1680 and was merged with Saxe-Coburg in 1735.
