This specimen was lot 1422 in Sincona sale 18 (Zurich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 7,500 (about US$9,882 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''5 Taler 1828. Kassel Sehr selten, 952 Exemplare geprägt. Sehr schön-vorzüglich.'' ([[Germany]], electorate of Hesse-Cassel, five thaler of 1828, very rare, 952 struck, very fine to extremely fine.)"</blockquote> This denomination, like all the gold issues of Hesse-Cassel, is rare and expensive. The five thaler was equal to a Prussian ''friedrichs d'or.'' This type is noted for 1823-29.
